Mountains after Mountains Exhibition Opening Artist Talk

AHL Foundation is pleased to present the public debut of "Mountains after Mountains (산 넘어 산)": a Virtual Reality (VR) experience centered around generational struggles for reproductive justice. Featuring the autobiographical account of theatremaker Amy Mihyang Ginther's illegal abortion in South Korea, this VR installation challenges the prevailing notion that adoption can replace the right to choose. By emphasizing solidarity with her Korean mother, the artist sheds light on the intersecting systems of power that restrict bodily autonomy.

💌Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 3, from 3 pm to 6 pm. An artist talk will be moderated by Senti Sojwal, Communications Director for Planned Parenthood of Greater New York and Member of the Asian American Feminist Collective, at 4 pm on the same day.

28th Annual Rose Sheinberg Lecture - Anti-Asian Violence: An Intersectional Feminist Lens

The Rose Sheinberg Committee -- NYU Law’s project on cutting edge issues of gender, race, and class -- presents our 28th Annual Lecture, “Anti-Asian Violence: An Intersectional Feminist Lens.”

It is with grieving, sadness, solidarity, and radical optimism that we foreground an issue so contemporary and relevant in our city and country today. This lecture will be a tripartite discussion led by organizers with experience combatting the distinct oppression Asian American women and femmes face. Shivana Jorwar of Jahajee Sisters and Salonee Bhaman and Senti Sojwal of the Asian-American Feminist Collective will be in dialogue with Haeyoung Yoon, formerly of CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities. Join us as we work to foster community praxis and apply an intersectional lens to the continued violence threatened by intertwined systems of oppression.

Reckoning with Representation: A Kamala Harris Talk Circle

Community organizers Senti Sojwal (AAFC), Salonee Bhaman (AAFC), and Maryam Mohammed invite you to a talk circle (facilitated discussion with an emphasis on creating brave space + exploring complex feelings) to explore the election of Kamala Harris as our nation's first woman and POC VP with Ethel’s Club. Kamala Harris' political ascension is undoubtedly historic but for many progressives, she doesn't share our values with her history as a tough on crime prosecutor whose actions have harmed many families of color and criminalized Black and Brown youth. We want to explore questions like, how do we deal with the complex perils of representation here while honoring this historic moment? What are the responses from our families? What could this mean for our communities moving forward, and what are the political possibilities here?
